Books

Although this is primarily a blog about my knitting, in an effort to blog more regularly, I thought that I might share some of the other things going on in my life.  I also love to read and cook, so I'm going to share some of those fun things too.  And 2014 is going to be a BIG year for my boys too.  One is graduating from college and one is graduating from high school.  As you can imagine I am one proud and happy mom :-)

Today I'm going to tell you about the books I've finished so far.

Where'd You Go, Bernadette?

I really enjoyed this book!  It's about a woman who is lost in about every way a person can be lost.  Much of her story is told through correspondence.  Some of it is touching, some is heart-breaking, and some of it is laugh out loud funny.  The supporting characters are great and I loved how my perspective of them changed as the story unfolded.  I give this 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Sycamore Row

I haven't read a book by John Grisham in a long time, but my husband is a big fan of his books and got this as soon as it came out.  Generally he is person who reads on planes and on a quiet weekend afternoon sitting by the lake.  He could not put this one down so I picked it up when he was finished.  If you've read A Time to Kill, or seen the movie, you're familiar with the character Jake Brigance. This is another Jake Brigance book and includes his merry band of odd ball cohorts such as Lucien and Harry Rex.  I thought it was an enjoyable read.  I spent much of the book wondering how the case was going to work out.  Although I had basically guessed the outcome, I loved how it all came together.  I'm giving it 4 stars!

Right now I'm listening to The Cuckoo's Calling.  In print I'm reading Flight Behavior.  It was my book club's pick for January.  I'm only about 40 pages into it, but my group met last night and most of  my friends didn't like it.  They described it as "not captivating", "excruciating", "preachy" and were really annoyed that it was over-descriptive and yet left characters hanging, didn't develop stories and characters that would have enriched the story much more.  And yet it has some really great reviews. Hmmm....  I haven't decided yet if I'm going to continue it or abandon it.  I might just keep it around and poke my way through it for a while longer before I decide.

Next month's pick is Me Before You.  It sounds really good to me and I'm looking forward to it.  I downloaded it to my Kindle as soon as I got home last night.

I'd love to hear about any books you've read that you've really enjoyed!  I'm also on Goodreads if you'd like to follow me there too!
